Batmobile Sells For Over 4 Million At Barrett Jackson

The original Batmobile, made famous in the iconic 1960’s action / comic book series has sold for $4.2 million. This is one of the original cars from the series, a 1955 Lincoln Futura was sold at the Barrett Jackson auction in Arizona back in January. Adam West would be proud.

The unique auto was owned and customized by George Barris back in the 1960’s and was the perfect accessory for the superhero with all the best gadgets. It had all kinds of cool features and gimmicks, such as parachutes, lasers, smoke screen and even a bat phone. It was obviously well before it’s time. Hence the name “Futura”.

Although the show only ran from 1966 to 1968, it remains one of the most popular shows of it’s kind, and the car always stole the show. From an investment perspective, the specialty and classic car market has gained in returns and these types of vehicles are considered to be a wise investment, as far as collectibles go.

Sure, there were other vehicles that sold at this particular auction, such as a few Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s and such, but (ho-hum) how can anything top the Batmobile? The economy may be crawling along, but apparently there are still plenty of wealthy investors.
